Abundant Seafood Supply for Tet in Vietnam
Abundant Seafood Supply for Tet in Vietnam Quang Ninh province has invested significantly in agriculture in Vietnam, focusing on technical infrastructure for aquaculture and seafood exploitation in key coastal areas like Van Don, Cam Pha, and Co To. Attractive investment policies have drawn major seafood companies to the region, further bolstering production. Guided by the Master Plan for Fisheries Development, Quang Ninh has implemented policies promoting the use of advanced technology in aquaculture and fishing. Van Don district stands out as Quang Ninh's largest seafood hub, with numerous cage fish farming households producing 800-1000 tons annually. With Tet 2024 approaching, fish farmers are busy harvesting and fulfilling orders. Mr. Pham Van Thuong, a farmer in Van Don, reports strong demand and profitable prices for his grouper, enabling him to expand his business. The province boasts nearly 15,000 fish cages, primarily raising high-value fish like grouper and sea bass, each cage yielding approximately one ton of fish. Ensuring Sufficient Supply for Market Demand Mr. Do Dinh Minh, Head of the Fisheries Sub-Department, confirms that 3,000-4,000 tons of cage fish are ready for Tet, guaranteeing sufficient fresh fruit supply to the market. Beyond cage fish, other farmed seafood like shrimp and mollusks enjoy robust consumption and higher prices compared to last year. This positive trend promises a prosperous Tet for farmers without concerns about oversupply or price drops. Markets and supermarkets are overflowing with a diverse selection of seafood. Popular Tet items like shrimp, grouper, and squid have seen price increases, with tiger prawns fetching 580,000-600,000 VND/kg. In 2023, total seafood production reached nearly 177,000 tons, a significant increase compared to 2022. Quang Ninh province aims for even higher output in 2024, targeting around 187,700 tons and focusing on sustainable practices, including local fry production and replenishing coastal waters. Meeting Consumer Demand and Ensuring Food Safety To meet consumer demand for Tet 2024, supermarkets and major stores in Quang Ninh have increased stockpiles and launched promotional programs. Strict quality and origin inspections ensure food safety for consumers. The Department of Industry and Trade has stockpiled nearly 1,300 billion VND worth of goods, and supermarkets are prepared for daily replenishment. Authorities are actively monitoring prices and cracking down on speculation and hoarding to prevent supply disruptions and ensure a stable market. The Market Management Department is conducting rigorous inspections and has signed commitments with businesses against trading counterfeit or substandard goods. These proactive measures ensure a stable and safe supply of goods for Tet. Quang Ninh's comprehensive preparations, from production to distribution and market regulation, demonstrate a strong commitment to providing abundant and safe seafood for the upcoming Tet celebrations. The province's extensive aquaculture area, spanning over 32,000 hectares, and its network of seafood seed production facilities contribute significantly to this effort.
